Now that you have all of your lures
repaired, your bucktails re-shafted and all of your hooks sharpened,
it is time to consider replacing the leaders that you have been
using for the past few seasons. All of us tend to take leaders for granted…they are after all made of steel or Titanium and are, therefore, relatively indestructible. |
Well, if you saw my article on the Myth of Indestructibility of Titanium, you know that any metal, solid or stranded, is subject to metal fatigue. Face it, our leaders get one heck of a work out even if a Musky isn’t caught. The violent assault on a leader as the result of a Musky encounter will put a hurting on any leader regardless of the material from which it is made.
Any of you who frequent the articles on the Musky America website have run across my articles on Making Your Own Leaders and you are, therefore, aware that I also sell the leaders that I make for myself in 7 inch, 9 inch and 11 inch sizes.
My leaders are an item on the Best American Tackle website. Regardless of which leader you choose to use, I strongly recommend that you take a long hard look at the leaders in your tackle box to see if it is time to replace some or all.
