I recently received an
unsolicited Email from irs.com.
Dear Chief Accountant Officer,
Hereby you are notified that your Tax Return Appeal id#2651283
has been DECLINED. If you consider that the IRS did not
properly investigate your case due to a misunderstanding of the
facts, be ready to submit additional information. You can
download the rejection details and re-submit your appeal using
the following link Online Tax Appeal.
First – This is not a
government website and I have not filed a tax return appeal.
Also, the Email does not address me by name which is a major SCAM
If you go to IRS.com, you
are taken to a website which is a commercial tax
A little research yielded the
actual URL user hidden under a listing for irs.com. This is a
company based in Las Vegas;
Domain Name: IRS.COM
Registrant Organization: Remark Media, Inc.
Registrant Street: 3930 Howard Hughes Parkway, Suite 400
Registrant City: Las Vegas
Registrant State/Province: NV
Registrant Postal Code: 89169
Registrant Country: US
Registrant Phone: +1.4049742730
When I tried to contact this
organization, I got the ‘automated phone run around’ that you
usually get from companies who don’t really want to talk with
you. When I sent an Email to the listed Admin Email ,
the Email was returned as not deliverable...Seems like the folks
at IRS.com are not interested in any Email correspondence.
The ‘Online Tax Appeal’ link in
the Email message to me, links to an Iranian website at http://rezayousefi.ir/.
This whole thing is obviously a
scam to dupe unsuspecting people into giving personal information to
an unfriendly foreign country.
For my part, I have forwarded
the information to Homeland Security. If you get this type of Spam,
DO NOT respond…just delete the Email.
I do not know whether the two
American companies who own/lease the IRS.com URL are
cooperating to send people’s personal information to an unfriendly
foreign country. Since no one from either of these American
companies was available to address questions regarding their
possible involvement, it has the appearance of a scam conspiracy.
